VENICE - TOWNS OF DREAMS
The numerous cultural initiatives, art exhibitions, the monuments, the Casino, the splendid lagoon, make of this city a unique scenario in the world. Piazza San Marco is unique and lovely at all times of day, with her Basilica, where the walls glitter of Byzantine gold mosaics. A reinassance Clock Tower, surmounted by the famous "Moor" - two bronze figures who strike the hour on huge bell- now overlooks the Piazza. On either side of the Piazza are the "Procuratie", where originally there were the quarters of high-ranking city magistrates. Another fantastic place of Venetian life is Rialto: centre of business and trade even in the earliest centuries. A walk trough the central passage of the bridge, crammed with particular little shops; it's famous "Ruga degli Orefici" ( Street ) has been noted for its wool and silk shops since the late four-teenth century. It was expecially renowded for the exquisite gold and silver wares made in its workshops situated beneath the arcades at Rialto.
